Lancia Delta S4 Production Ramps Up

A little bit of Italy in the UK!

We built our initial Lancia Delta S4 chassis to use as a demonstrator and Retro Rallycross car. However, it wasn’t long before the orders started coming in.

We are currently building chassis number three of these iconic Group B rally cars.

We are building our recreations in keeping with the original design. Although obviously, owing to the scarcity of original 1980’s parts, we have to use some modern components. We are sympathetic to the original Lancia Delta S4. Our work will confirm this. These changes won’t be seen externally as the GRP panels are identical to the original. The powerplant  and drivetrain in particular are almost impossible to source. They are also rather expensive.

To this end, we are looking at suitable engines. The Volvo T6 Twin Charge is about as close as you could get nowadays to the original engine. We are also considering the Ford Ecoboost 2.3T with an added supercharger. Reason being is that we are familiar with these engines. They are fitted to our Ford RS200 replica. This may prove to not be viable but watch this space! We are, as always, open to suggestions. If you have any ideas, we would be only too pleased to hear from you.

From Small Acorns.

As this project is still in its relative infancy, we haven’t completed manufacture of all components. We’re sure you will appreciate that there’s a hell of a lot of things to replicate and, being only a small company with other  jobs coming in and out of the factory, this will take time.

However, we are confident that most items requiring fabrication of the Lancia Delta S4 are now saved as CAD files and will be dealt with as we progress. This project, along with our previous projects was never going to be a quick turnaround. We want to make sure that what we present as a final product is as close to perfection as we can possibly make it.

Building for the future

Regarding the actual manufacture of the Lancia Delta S4. We utilize the trusty ROPT510 tubing in our rollover protection tubing and other CDS tubing for the non essential parts of the spaceframe tubing. We are currently tooling up for manufacture of cast aluminium rear hubs and have access to a 5 axis milling machine to replicate the front hubs from hi spec billet aluminium.

Our GRP body panels are expertly formed by our partner who has a wealth of experience in mould making and laminating. Some panels are manufactured with Carbon Kevlar composites and we could arrange to manufacture a complete set in Carbon Kevlar if required.
